About the journal
Starinnaya muzyka (Early music quarterly) is a Russian illustrated journal of academic studies in musicology.
Founded in 1998, it remains the journal for anyone interested in early music and how it is being interpreted today.
Each issue contains articles by leading Russian specialists in the field of music theory and history, as well as by postgraduate students and applicants for academic degrees.
The journal publishes scholarly articles on Western and Russian professional music of the past (from Antiquity to the middle of the 19th century) and on historical informed practice in today’s world, as well as reviews of new books on these topics. These are articles on actual problems of historical and theoretical musicology, musical aesthetics, musical source studies and textology, and musical and performing practice.

PREST Ltd. was founded in 1992 as a publishing house on the basis of the State Methodological Center for Education in Fine Arts and Culture. Its products mainly consist of books on music and fine arts.
Since the second half of 2010, the journal has been published with the participation of the Moscow Conservatory Center of Methodological Studies in Historical Musicology.
Starinnaya muzyka is included by the Highest Certifying Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in “The list of the leading reviewed scientific journals”.
